I've been under the same impression.  I only have about 100 subscribers,
so I don't charge for my ads yet either.  What is the general consensus?

  I would be interested in this as well.   I've been led to believe
  that until I have about 2,000 I can't even consider selling ad
  space in any sort of significant manner.   But I'm not going the
  CPM route anyway, but will use a flat weekly/monthly rate when I
  do start selling ad space.
