I'm afraid I'm lost -- I don't understand how you are using the term(s)
"Solo ad" and "classified ads".

Are you suggesting sending out ADDITIONAL mailings apart from the newsletter
to which your readers have subscribed?   I've gotten a few of these, all
from various publishers of "biz-op", work-at-home, or internet- marketing
type newsletters,  and all trying to hawk some "special NEW program"  blah
blah blah. ... and all have earned themselves an unsubscribe request in
return.

I understand that ezines/newsletters need revenue to keep going (those that
aren't a labor of love, of course), and they need to use advertising and
affiliate programs to get that revenue if they aren't charging for the main
subscription.  But sending out special mailings just for ads isn't something
I would personally advise.  In fairness, though (as with all opinions) it
depends on your  unique target audience and the relevance of the ads to the
needs of that audience.
