EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Introduction
Hi As a new subscriber to this group, I thought I would introduce myself and my current plans within e-publishing. I am currently developing a new site, www.voluntary-sector.co.uk which is an information site for people in the UK who work within the voluntary sector of social care. I believe an important resource for this site will also include the distribution of a monthly e-zine to interested parties who may, or may not, visit the site. At present I am looking at using a combination of MS PowerPoint and Neobook to publish my e-zine. Having spent some twenty years working in a senior management level within the UK's voluntary sector of social care, I am currently taking time out of work to be the primary carer of my son, Morgan (see www.morgan-palmer.co.uk ). My partner, Leah, continues to work as a bail supervision officer for our local authority's Youth Offending Team. My interest and experience of e-publishing goes back a number of years. In the mid 80's I published the UK's first commercial e-zine, PC Focus, which reviewed and distributed shareware programs. I wrote the software engine for PC Focus myself in C and later further developed this engine into the DOS based shareware program, Magazine Publisher. Looking back, Mag Pub seems somewhat crude compared with today's development software, but back then, it's relative ease and GUI enabled it to enjoy good reviews and in the UK it was distributed on the cover disc of a couple of popular PC mags. Since then, the pressure of my usual work has meant that I needed to shelve my interest all things e-publishing. My current role of full-time Dad allows me the opportunity to bring together two major interests; e-publishing and social care. I look forward to hearing about other members experiences of e-publishing, tips, problems overcome and software used. In return I hope to play a positive role within this e-group and develop a number of contacts and friendships Best wishes.
