[epub] Announce list - confusing since the term is used wiht two different meanings

Cantu says,
I have four lists on eGroups.  They are all Announce
lists. It means I 'announce' what I have to say to the
world.  Only I, the owner can 'announce' (i.e., post
to it, well maybe moderators can - I don't know since
I don't use them.)  In other words the communication
is one way. From owner (me) to subscriber. Usually the
publication is an ezine - an electronic newsletter.
This is the proper use of the term with regard to
registering a list with eGroups and many of the other
free list serve companies.

However some people have lists that are Discussion
lists  i.e., anyone can post to. And the owner will
say you can 'announce' (i.e., publicize) your lists on
my list.  But it is not an 'announce' list is the
usual sense of the word.  So people tend to call them
"annouce" lists but that is really not describing the
type of list they are, but rather describing the type
of function/service that the discussion lists are
designed for (this list is a unrestricted discussion
list).

And some of these so-named 'announce' lists are
unrestricted. You post however you want. Other are
restricted and the owner controls how the prom.
message is to be formatted, how frequently it can be
posted, etc.
