Re: [epub] Affiliate programs
there are books written on just about every topic under the sun.... so
whatever topic your newsletter is about you can ALWAYS recommend related
books to whatever you are writing about. ... so you can pretty much assume
you should get an Amazon or Barnes&Noble affiliate account (I have both --
I prefer the arrangement for B&N, but my readers have almost unanimously
spoken out for Amazon.... go figure!). Obviously you don't want to turn
your newsletter into a bookstore flyer(!), but whatever your topic is,
recommend 1 or 2 books in each publication, and make sure they are targeted
for that topic. You can even start your ad by saying : "To learn more about
this check out [then insert your book review]."

The bigger question would be What is the focus/niche/target population of
your newsletter/ezine? What products or topics do you write about? there
are affiliate programs suited to your topic. By building a relationship
with your readers, they will come to trust you, and will trust the products
you recommend. If you are doing a gardening newsletter, but have affiliate
links for get-rich-on-the-Net, or automotive parts, or some other thing, you
lose congruence, and it looks like your just making ads. But when you
feature plant-of-the-month subscriptions, or a link to a gardening tool
site, then it shows you are bringing products your readers will most
naturally be looking for. If you write about planting spring bulbs, have an
affiliate program where you can actually sell bulbs, fertilizer, hoses, etc.
If you write about keeping a gardening journal, you'll want to include both
the gardening affiliate sales items PLUS links for durable journals (blank
books), waterproof-ink pens, and so forth. (Being a one-person shop, you
are the writer, plus the advertising manager, and responsible for thinking
of everything all on your own!)

There are hundreds (or thousands) of affiliate programs these days... the
ones that bug the heck out of me are all those "get rich on the Internet"
programs. But otherwise, go to associateprograms.com, refer-it.com, and
some of the other legitimate directories for affiliate programs. From books
to toys to hardware, computer hardware/software, household, kitchen,
automotive, personals, blah blah blah and on and on.
