EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread]Re: [epub] research info. question
Hi ezine publishers, Just been lurking and thought I'd join in. To get the definitive word on copyright you might want to go to http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/ The document states that you can use any information you want, attribute it to the source or don't. It's entirely up to you and your sense of ethics or morals or whatever. Copyright protects ONLY the expression of those statistics... The actual sentences that are used to present the information. That you CAN'T copy. Rephrase and you're legally fine. As for the chart, it's the same thing. Present the information in a different manner or form and you're legally fine (remember, I'm not talking about ethics, here. That's up to you.) You cannot copyright an idea, or a concept. You can only hold copyright to the specific expression of that idea or concept. As I understand it, if you discover a new way to produce an ezine and you publish the instructions, you own the RIGHT to COPY those instructions only. But you can't stop anyone else from publishing the same thing, using different sentences.
