Remind me to show you some software wot I writ that removes that stuff 
from email addresses!

Yes, I wrote harvesting software, then took it in to demos to show 
people why all this stuff is pointless. And no, it is not for sale. And 
a bigger no, it is not used by me to build mailing lists

I did it deliberately to illustrate the point. I'm now looking at my 
box for this list and all I've got is message after message that is 
"from" epub@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You've now removed all your eMail addresses (and mine) from your post 
and guess what. I have no idea who you are or how to contact you if I 
thought "hmm, that was interesting. I will eMail him off list because 
I'm not outing myself as someone who doesn't know about this stuff."

And thus more value is drained from the list.
